Suicide behavior in the economic and social development zones (zodes) of the Department of Bolivar during 2025

This study presents an analysis of suicide trends in the Economic and Social Development Zones (ZODES) of the Bolívar department during 2025, addressing a public health issue of significant importance due to its multifactorial nature and severe social and economic repercussions. The main objective was to analyze the incidence of suicide considering sociodemographic, territorial, and temporal variables in order to identify patterns and define risk profiles in these areas. A quantitative, cross-sectional, and non-experimental approach was adopted, based on official mortality data from the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (INMLCF).
Power BI software was used for data organization, processing, and visualization, allowing for the identification of trends, relationships, and patterns of behavior related to the phenomenon. The results revealed an increase in cases, with 34 suicide deaths recorded in 2025, showing a significant prevalence in men (76.47%) and in specific age groups, such as adolescents (15-17 years) and older adults (60-64 years). The territorial distribution showed concentrations in municipalities such as Turbaco, Arjona, and Santa Rosa de Lima, revealing a pattern of spatial polarization and the influence of local socioeconomic and cultural conditions. The findings highlight that suicide in Bolívar is a growing and multifaceted problem requiring differentiated prevention strategies, strengthened epidemiological surveillance, and integrated public policies, in line with the 2025-2034 Public Policy on Mental Health, to reduce its impact on the community and improve the mental health of the population.
