Abstract

Abstract:
This article deals with the formation of adjectives in Spanish through the mechanism of transposition, which allows the construction of functional adjectives from the union of a transpositor and a base. This phenomenon occurs in the adjective function of nominal complement and the type of transpositor varies according to the category of the base. So if the base is a noun or noun phrase, the transpositor is a preposition; And if the base is a verbal verb or phrase, the transpositor is a relative pronoun. The theoretical basis of this work comes from the postulates of Spanish functional linguistics, especially the contributions of Emilio Alarcos Llorach and Salvador Gutiérrez Ordóñez. The methodology used is of a theoretical nature and in this part the functions of the adjective are presented and it is specific in which of them the transposition takes place. In the part of results, the mode of formation of functional adjectives by transposition is illustrated, with concrete examples. Finally, the conclusions highlight the importance of transposition as a mechanism to characterize reality, especially when users do not have adjectives types to qualify their environment.
