This research article intends to analyze the current systems of designation or election of rectors in the public universities of Colombia, an aspect that will be studied focused from the perspective of the participation of the student sector and examined in the light of the principles of Participatory democracy and university autonomy, as two pillars or constitutional institutions, around which some sort of tension may emerge.
