The purpose of this article is to describe and interpret the business history of the Empresa de Energía Eléctrica de Sincelejo, especially regarding its owners and origin, the different management offices, the type of companies that were set up for this purpose, its eras of apogee and crisis, and its resources. The research was qualitative. The methods used were description, analysis, synthesis and hermeneutics. In the city of Sincelejo, business initiatives were generated that met the needs of goods and services in the region. One of these companies was the Empresa de Energía Eléctrica de Sincelejo, which started in the second decade of the twentieth century and closed down to make way for the Electrificadora de Sucre, counting on the impulse of its owners, even despite its vicissitudes. These vicissitudes were related to operational aspects, but the most pressing problems revolved around the financial factor, which negatively influenced the quality of service provision of electric fluid.
