A look at tourism as an engine of economic growth in the nortesantandereanas regions and the situation of the sector at the Covid-19 juncture

The main purpose of this paper is to provide a literature review on the vision of the tourism sector as an attractive opportunity and leverage in economic development for the regions in this case focused on the department of Norte de Santander located in the northeast of Colombia, which has a strong tourist attraction that has failed to consolidate as an offer highly demanded by tourists and in turn, due to the current crisis of the pandemic Covid-19 referencing the panorama in which the sector is, which undoubtedly has been one of the most affected by this situation. To this end, the development of the bibliographic research was first focused on describing the importance of the tourism activity and its contribution to the international, national (Colombia) and regional (Norte de Santander) economies, followed by a description of the opportunities that the sector has and the stakeholders that participate in it; finally, a thematic focused on outlining general aspects of tourism in the Nortesantandereanas regions was approached. The research shows the importance of the tourism sector as one of the economic activities with great challenges and opportunities, which has a significant growth and contributions to the development of the regions despite the current situation caused by the health crisis, in addition to the opportunity and high potential that Norte de Santander must see this sector as one of its main economic activities for its growth and development.
