Challenges in the management of reseach projects with funding from Minciencias: case study Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas

In project management, it is essential to integrate various variables for efficient execution. However, some managers often do not consider all the inherent variables at different stages of the project, which negatively impacts timely completion and delivery, and leads to cost overruns. From this perspective, the present research aimed to identify the factors affecting the development of research projects funded by Minciencias at the Francisco José de Caldas District University. The guidelines of qualitative research were followed, with a descriptive scope and a case study design. The different entities of the university were considered primary sources for identifying the variables that affect the effective execution of research projects. Findings from surveys, interviews, focus groups, and document analysis revealed that time, cost, and scope variables are the most impactful on project execution. It was concluded that it is crucial to consider these variables in project management, as inadequate management can lead to delays, cost overruns, and reduced effectiveness. Therefore, it is necessary to develop comprehensive strategies, continuous training, and monitoring and control mechanisms for more efficient execution and achievement of the proposed objectives.
