In the contemporary world, companies are faced with the need to develop project management skills. Adequate monitoring of these initiatives is considered an essential strategic resource to achieve business objectives and milestones. Although this ideal premise prevails, certain organizational entities, due to lack of knowledge about the methodologies that can be integrated to manage their projects effectively, fail to meet established deadlines and budgets. This challenge is also present in the municipal administration of Sogamoso Boyacá, Colombia, as evidenced by the analysis of the opinions and arguments of some members of the project office, confirming the presence of deficiencies in the monitoring and internal control of these projects. The research presented focuses on the strategic implementation of the PM2 methodology to manage activities related to the management of new and ongoing projects. From a methodological perspective, this study adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive scope and an action research design. It is based on the testimonies of civil servants to integrate the PM2 methodology in the project office of the municipal administration. It concludes that the harmonization of the steps proposed by the European Commission in the PM2 methodology makes it possible to significantly improve project management in the municipal administration.
