Ecosystem services and economic valuation: a bibliometric analysis during the period 2010-2021
Keywords:
Bibliometrics, environmental economics, monetary measures, ecosystem services, economic valuation.Abstract
This article evaluated the scientific production generated between January 2010 and June 2021 on the economic valuation of ecosystem goods and services, through a bibliometric analysis. Search algorithms based on keywords and Boolean connectors in the Scopus® database were used to search the documents. Software such as SciMAT and VOSviewer were used to compare the documents based on bibliometric networks and strategic diagrams. A total of 506 papers related to the subject were obtained, analyzing different characteristics such as the number of publications in which countries such as the Netherlands, the United States, China and the United Kingdom stand out, as well as the journals with the highest impact and publications, among them, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In addition, the gap in knowledge related to the use of economic valuation as a tool for decision making in natural resource management was determined. The study reflects how the economic valuation of environmental services has become important in the scientific field worldwide due to the impacts generated by anthropic actions as a measure of conservation and sustainability of territorial ecosystems.
