Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to determine the demographic and sociodemographic factors that influence the happiness of young university students, taking into account that their conception of well-being differs due to different circumstances present throughout their life cycle in comparison to other age groups. This study presents a contribution to the analysis of the dimensions that influence happiness, which are consistent with results found in previous researches. An ordered Probit regression was estimated following the methodology of Lordemann, Jimenez, Mita, Lázaro, & Carvajal (2015). The results indicate that sex is indifferent to having a high level of happiness. The youngest are the most satisfied, just by having a stable partner. Being married helps to raise that level. At the same time, religion has positive effects on the level of satisfaction for young university students. On the other hand, income was not significant as a determinant of happiness.
