Abstract

The article describes the results of a documentary study describing the importance of developing communication skills in the learning of English as a foreign language, offering the use of socioformative projects as a viable strategy. It was also analyzed the way in which the English sessions are conducted and the fact that most teachers do not include activities that develop communicative competences, but instead focus on the learning of vocabulary and grammar, all explained in Spanish. We reviewed relevant and current sources around the learning and teaching of English and concluded that it is necessary to change the ways of working in the classroom, promoting cooperation and the exchange of ideas with the use of socioformative projects. Finally, it is recognized that changes will occur in the extent that teachers continue to be trained both, in their own use of the language and in their pedagogical knowledge.
