Abstract

This paper analyses the institutional factors that determine the creation of companies resulting from university research in order to study the relationship between this type of company and Industry 4.0. By means of a correlation study applied to institutional factors, it is established whether university spin-off technology-based companies (Law 1838 of 2017) are close to those of Industry 4.0. The results reveal that the institutional factors of the Higher Education Institutions are determinant for the constitution of companies from research processes, but not in the existing relationship with Industry 4.0. In conclusion, the technology-based companies categorized by Colciencias since the enactment of Law 1838 of 2017 in the Caribbean region do not have all the characteristics of Industry 4.0.
