Adolescent´s low grade malignant Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma of the Palatine.

Abstract

Background. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most frequent tumor of salivary glands, being the palate the part with greater affection and less frequency at early ages. They can be histopathologically categorized as low or high grade based on cyst formation, cellular atypia and number of mucous, epidermoid and intermediate cells. In low-grade Mucoepidermoid carcinoma, the cyst formation, minimal cellular atypia and three types of cells are present but composed predominantly of mucous cells. It has an optimistic prognosis, but it can spread to other tissues, showing more aggressive behavior. Objective. The objective of this article is to report an Adolescent´s low-grade malignant Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma of the Palatine clinical case, describing clinical characteristics and the importance of the histopathological study.
