DELIVERIES
PREREQUISITE DELIVERY
Each author is responsible for the content of their work, spelling, consistency and other requirements of written discourse.
Entries must be original and not duplicated, i.e. substantially match with one already published, unless they report that the article is a reprint. This policy does not preclude accepting an original rejected by other journals, or a complete work after the publication of a preliminary study in abstract or poster presented at a scientific conference.
When and original work is sent, the author must report on all submissions to other journals, or any previous work that could be considered prior publication or duplicate of an identical or very similar work.
On the other hand, it must protect the identity of patients so that no information identifying character texts, photographs and medical records will be published, unless such information is essential from the scientific point of view and the patient (family or guardian) has given his/her written consent for publication. This consent requires that the patient have access to the original document intended for publication and has been mentioned in the text of the article.
The identification data will be omitted if not essential, but it should not alter or falsify patient data to achieve anonymity. Complete anonymity is difficult to achieve, and when in doubt informed consent must be obtained. For example, the fact to hide the eye area in photographs of patients is not guarantees adequate protection of anonymity.
Before sending your article, revise the order of the same, as explained below.
GUIDE TO THE AUTHORS
General characteristics: It is recommended to develop you writings invoking the "Uniform Requirements for papers submitted to biomedical journals" and you are encouraged to review this document at htpp: //www.icmje.org
The article and presentation letter will be sent through the journal platform for which the author must register.
The letter of presentation should include the title of the proposed article, the name of the author responsible for communication and possible corrections as well as the name, signature, permanent address, phone number and email of the principal author. The signed letter can be sent in a PDF file or can be written in Word and include scanned signatures. This document must certify the originality of the article, which has not been nor will be sent to another journals also online form and format of publication of the Science and Virtual Health Journal. Additionally, the editor should recommend at least two peers that can perform the evaluation of your article. The peers must furnish their full name, email, and institutional affiliation.
The article must be written on letter-size paper (21.59 cm × 27.94 cm or 8.5 "x 11") with 2.54 cm (1") margins. The text is written on a single column version in Word, single spaced, in Arial 12, with left and right justification. The text of the article must be paginated in the lower right corner.
Text of the article:
Original articles, articles of scientific and technological research: the text of the articles will have the following structure: Title in Spanish and English, Authors, Summary and Abstract. Key words in Spanish and English, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Bibliographic Reference. The length of the scientific and technological research may vary between 6 and 15 pages including figures and images.
The authors should be written one below the other, each with an increasing number of asterisks to indicate footer academic degrees and institutional affiliations; email correspondence (preferably institutional).
Summary and abstract: for original articles, a structured summary including necessary required and only introduction (indicating the purpose and justification of the study), objectives, methods, results, discussion and conclusions, or an adaptation of this format to the respective discipline. The abstract should be between 250 and 300 words. Later the same summary in Spanish appears.
Keywords: after the abstract a list of three to seven key words should be included to facilitate the documentary analysis of the article to be published together with the summary Only those that are accepted by international databases will be used, which can be consulted at the following addresses: Palabras clave: (Spanish): http://decs.bvs.br/E/homepagee.htm Keywords (English): http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/
Introduction: includes clear and coherent research problem approach, the definition of the concepts of the study or variables, theoretical and conceptual foundation of work, the study hypotheses (in experimental designs) and the purpose and objective of the study, all with due bibliographical support. The purpose of the article is indicated and be conducted in summary form a justification of the study. In this section of the article, only the strictly necessary references are included and no data or conclusions should be included.
Methods: they should include: the type of study and design; the definition of the universe, the population studied, the type of sampling performed and the sample size; the description of the criteria for inclusion and exclusion of the sample; exposing the ethical considerations of the study and subsequent approval by institutional ethics committees; the explanation of the procedures performed in a complete, orderly and clear manner; the description of the technical characteristics of equipment, instruments (especially brands, references and models) and materials (hopefully generic, in the case of drugs); clear illustration of the methods and instruments used for the collection and organization of information; the detailed description of the methods used and decisions made for information analysis. Reference of the accredited methods will be offered, among them, statistical.
Results: present results in the text, tables and figures in a logical sequence. Do not repeat in the text data tables or illustrations; emphasize or summarize only the most important observations.
Discussion: emphasize those new and important aspects of the study and the conclusions derived from them. Data or other information already included in the introductory paragraphs and results should not be repeated. Explain in the discussion section the meaning of the results, limitations of the study and its implications for future research. Observations with those of other relevant studies are to be compared.
Conclusions: connect the conclusions with the objectives of the study; avoid poorly substantiated statements and conclusions insufficiently supported by the data.
References: in health sciences, the norm proposed by the the International Committee of Magazine Editors Biomedical rule is followed, in accordance with the guidance given by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors in the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals" (http://www.icmje.org), also known as group Vancouver. Science and Health Virtual Journal is governed by this standard. A quotation is the reference made in a manuscript to a source is used to support an idea or statement. Appointments can be textual and contextual. Quotations are written in quotes and literally, as they appear in the original source. Contextual citations are written in the words of the author of the new article retaining its sense (paraphrased). At the end of a quotation, after a period, a number is written (called) allowing the reader to search the complete bibliography reference of that quoted sources. Calls must be written in brackets in ascending order of mention. The authors are recommended to write the calls directly and not use the tool insert notes at the end of word processors. Usually no footnotes page is used in the text of scientific articles with this standard. "References" are numbered and must be written in the order as they appear in the text citations. This means that they should not be organized alphabetically. The minimum number of references an article is 20, of which at least six should correspond to references of Colombian or Latin American publications.
Titles of serials should be abbreviated according to the "List of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus" (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/tsd/serials/lji.html) and printed without bold, italic or underlined words, using the same layout in all references. The surnames of the authors should be followed by their abbreviated names without a period or a comma. Use only the comma between the names of different authors. In publications up to six authors, all must be cited; in publications with seven or more authors, the first six should be cited and, then, the Latin expression et-al. For serials, include year, volume, number (fasciculus) and article pages after the title of the journal.
Avoid citing personal communications, works in progress and unpublished. The accuracy of references is the responsibility of the authors. For examples of references presented correctly, go to: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/bv.fcgi?rid=citmed.part.1323.
Ethics: in the case of experimental studies in humans indicate whether the ethical standards committee (institutional or regional) oversee human tests and the Helsinki declaration of 1975 as amended in 1983. Do not use, especially in artwork, the name or initials or the number of medical records of patients. When animal experiments are conducted, indicate if they have followed the guidelines of the institution or a national research council, or if any national law on the care and use of laboratory animals has been taken into account.
Others:
Acknowledgements (optional): Include a list of all those who have worked but do not meet the criteria for authorship, such as technical help, help in writing the manuscript or general support by the head of the department. Also include the acknowledgments financial support and material resources received.
People who have collaborated in the preparation of the original, but whose contributions do not justify its accreditation such as authors may be cited under the name of "clinical investigators" or "participating investigators," and their function or type of contribution should be specified, e.g. "scientific adviser”, “critical review of study proposal”, “data collection" or "participation in the clinical test."
Because readers may infer that the persons mentioned in the acknowledgments in any way endorse the data and conclusions of the study, the authorization of the people mentioned in that section shall be obtained in writing.
Appendices: the tables and figures numbering is consecutive and independent. In any case, the maximum number that can be included in an article is 10; make sure each table and figure is cited in the text; place them alternatively. The titles and legends of tables and figures should be in Arial 10. Images must have a resolution of 300 dpi and be submitted in JPG or TIFF format. For ethical considerations do not include pictures of patients, but when this is essential, images must be accompanied by the necessary permissions and concealments. Similarly, when an article includes reproductions of published material, these should include permission. If a figure has been cited above, cite the original and submit written permission from the owner of the copyright for the reproduction of the source material. Such authorization is necessary, regardless of who is the author or publisher; the only exception is in public domain documents.
Abbreviations and symbols: use only standard abbreviations. Avoid abbreviations in the title and the abstract. When an abbreviation is used for the first time in the text, it should be preceded by the full term, except if it is a standard unit of measurement.
Reflection and Review articles: reflection and review articles should be 5-10 pages long. In the case of review articles, it has to include a section in which the methods used to locate, select, collect and synthesize data are described. These methods are also described in the summary of the article. For reviews a maximum of 50 references. Summaries of reflection articles (essays) may be presented in a different format as above, but it must contain the necessary information to understand the scope and significance of the topic. It should be written in third person.
Short and Case Report articles: the short article begins with an introduction that presents the general topic, the problem or issue and the original preliminary or partial results. It is possible that these items include discussion sections and conclusions. Case reports begin with an introduction that includes a review of the literature, are followed by description or cases (diagnosis or management) and end with a discussion.
