Reconstruction of the frontal bone with autologous calvarial bone graft

Abstract

In Colombia, the craniofacial trauma that affects frontal bone presents a considerable frequency and its reconstruction is a challenge for the maxillofacial surgeon. Traditional sources of autologous bone of the rib or pelvis are associated with pain at the donor site, the calvarium bone graft provides an easily accessible source of bone, generally within the same operative field, with minimal morbidity, it is useful in the reconstruction of cranial defects, frontal paranasal sinus, orbital floor, nasal and malar regions. We report the case of a 26 year old patient with a frontal bone fracture due to trauma. The frontal bone was reconstructed with autologous calvarial bone graft with satisfactory results.
