La apremiante necesidad de lograr desarrollo económico en la región latinoamericana que conduce al debate sobre cuál debe ser el modelo de desarrollo a seguir. De la decisión correcta depende el futuro económico.
¿Debe Latinoamérica seguir un modelo paternalista o; al estilo Singapur, optar por la meritocracia? Se propone un término medio: dar oportunidades para todos, pero condicionada a la obtención de parámetros de desempeño.
Este artículo aborda la cultura como elemento propiciador u obstáculo al desarrollo económico. Se expone la cultura fomentada activamente en Singapur y la posible cultura de hecho, que de manera no intencionada, se puede estar reforzando en Latinoamérica: una cultura de dependencia.
