The purpose of this research was to analyze the social responsibility for the leverage of sustainable development in Public Universities. The study was theoretically based on authors such as: Ancer (2014), Rebeil (2012), Moreno, Uriarte and Topa (2010), Briceño (2010), Leff (2008), Pelekais and Aguirre (2008), Morros and Videl (2005) among others. This is a research associated with the positivist paradigm, of an explanatory type with a non-experimental, transectional field design. The population consisted of three public management universities, selecting a population census of thirty-eight (38) subjects, to whom two instruments developed by the researcher consisting of 24 and 18 items were applied; submitted to a trial of ten experts for validation and a pilot test to 10 subjects to determine the reliability by means of the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, obtaining alpha values of 0.96 and 0.98 respectively, indicating that they are highly reliable. Among the results obtained it was concluded that in the university organizations under study, there is little presence of the components: Actions of obligation and social sensitivity as aspects that determine the fulfillment of social responsibility as a management policy. Similarly, it was evident that the proportion of human and ecological well-being is weakened in the strategic indicators of sustainable development, for this reason, unfavorable behavior is revealed in the authorities of public universities, revealing that in their management these indicators do not they are jointly assumed, still less the creation of sustainable conditions.
